About me

Hey there! My name is Charmaine a.k.a. The Foodie Mama and I am a proud mama of little two girls. I am second generation Maltese in Australia where I was very fortunate to grow up with Maltese culture around me, in particular – food!

I love food. I love that food can take you back to a particular time in your life, a feeling of nostalgia. I love that food can bring people together. I love the way food can alter a mood and make you feel warm and fuzzy. I am a foodie, and a mama… Hence the name Foodie Mama!

I started my Foodie Mama Instagram account in mid 2021 when my eldest started solids, with a view to share meal ideas and our baby-led weaning journey for other mamas out there with similar aged babies and toddlers. I love using it as my creative outlet where I share our journey with food as well as meal ideas and recipes. Along the way, I share traditional Maltese and Serbian meals – meals we grew up with as children, bringing us a feeling of nostalgia and keeping us connected with our roots. With my husband being Serbian, it just adds to that cultural richness that our girls are so lucky to have. As much as I am a lover of food, I am also a lover of our heritage and where we come from.

I have always enjoyed writing, starting my own personal blog in 2014 based on research of my family history and you guessed it, Malta! In mid 2023, I was approached by an online publication The Voice of the Maltese which had been around for well over 10 years at the time. I was asked to contribute with food related articles. From there I found myself writing an article every fortnight and found a new love for writing about food (in particular Maltese cuisine/recipes). Unfortunately, the publication ceased production in early 2024 and missed it dearly. Feeling like a part of me was missing, I decided to start up my own food blog where I can continue writing my food articles. Not just Maltese or Serbian, but anything I cook that might inspire others in the kitchen.

Becoming a mama and navigating this new world of motherhood can be overwhelming and stressful often leading to a deflated and demotivated version of yourself. I hope I can inspire not just another mama, but anyone feeling the pressures of life bringing you down to find love in food and fun in creating meals that feed the soul.

So, welcome to my creative outlet! Here I will share our journey with food, quick and easy meal ideas with a little culture along the way. I will share all the equipment and appliances I use, as well as tips, tricks and hacks I use to navigating around creating meals for those little people tugging at you while you try to whip up something decent for dinner.

I hope you enjoy what I have to share and that I can bring some form of nostalgic food feels to you. If not nostalgia, then something that connects you with your roots and gives you that warm and fuzzy feel that a good meal can give.
