Is Upgrading to the TM7 Worth It? I Asked TM31, TM5 and TM6 Owners

Thinking about upgrading your Thermomix but unsure if it’s worth it? I spoke with TM31, TM5 and TM6 owners who recently made the move to the TM7. From quieter operation and improved flavour to more inspiration, family involvement and easier cooking, here’s what they wish they’d known sooner.

by

One of the questions I get asked most often is: “Is the TM7 really worth upgrading to?”

I don’t think I’m the best person to answer this question.

The people who have lived with a TM31, TM5 or TM6 for years and have now made the move to the TM7 are best to ask.

So, I reached out to several Thermomix owners and asked them what held them back, what finally made them take the plunge, and whether they think the upgrade was worth it.

Here’s what they had to say:

“I Didn’t Realise What I Was Missing”

Rod had owned his TM31 for 15 years.

Like many long-time Thermomix owners, he was perfectly happy with what he had. He wasn’t actively looking to upgrade and, in fact, wasn’t aware of just how much the Thermomix had evolved since the TM31.

After learning more about the TM7 and its features, he decided it was time to take a closer look.

One of the first things he noticed was the quietness. Rod described the difference as substantial.

He also quickly fell in love with the Cookidoo integration, particularly being able to tick off ingredients while cooking, create shopping lists and have recipes guide him through each step.

Since upgrading, he’s found himself exploring new recipes, using the Cutter+ attachment for salads and becoming more organised with meal planning.

One of the many salads Rod has been creating in his TM7 using the Cutter+: Spiralized Carrots and Apple Salad with Feta Cheese and Nuts

When I asked if he wished he’d upgraded sooner, his answer was simple: “Yes.”

What stood out to me most about Rod’s story wasn’t any one feature. It was the fact that after 15 years with his TM31, he realised the Thermomix had evolved from a clever kitchen appliance into a connected cooking assistant.

The TM31 introduced many of us to the magic of chopping, blending, kneading and steaming all in one machine. The TM7 still does all of that, but it now includes over 20 modes such as Browning, Egg Boiler, Thicken and Open Cooking.

It also connects seamlessly with Cookidoo, allowing access to thousands of guided recipes and meal planning tools to help with inspiring everyday meals and help with the everyday chaos of life.

And perhaps that’s why Rod’s story resonates with so many people. Even though he knew the magic of a Thermomix with his TM31, he discovered there was a whole new layer of possibilities he didn’t even know existed with the TM7.

Right now, when you trade your TM31 in, you can get $250 off the total of the TM7. (Offer valid until 28th June 2026).

From Useful Kitchen Helper to Family Food Hub

Carmel’s story resonated deeply with me because it wasn’t really about upgrading a machine.

It was about upgrading what was happening around the dinner table.

After more than 10 years with her TM31, she wanted more variety, more inspiration and a way to bring her teenagers into the kitchen.

When she first saw the TM7, she was immediately drawn to it’s sleek design, larger screen and expanded functionality.

But what surprised her most wasn’t the technology. It was how much more connected her family became through cooking.

She describes the TM31 as a wonderful second pair of hands during the toddler years. It helped her prepare meals from scratch, save time and avoid burning dinner while juggling little ones.

But now that those toddlers are teenagers, her needs have changed.

The TM7 has become a tool for exploration. A source of inspiration. A way for the whole family to discover new recipes together.

One feature she didn’t expect to love was self-cleaning. At her demo, she couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about because she was still thinking like a TM31 owner who had always cleaned the bowl manually. It’s now one of the family’s favourite features.

The larger bowl and Varoma have also solved frustrations she’d simply accepted for years. And Cookidoo has introduced recipes and cuisines her family may never have discovered otherwise.

She told me: “We are making meals, snacks and exploring recipes that would never have been cooked (or eaten!) without the TM7.” And that’s something I hear often from older model owners.

A recipe that Carmel would never have attempted without a TM7…. Crème brûlée
Carmel says the hardest part was figuring out how to use the blow torch

One of the reasons I originally purchased a Thermomix was to reduce our reliance on packaged foods and make more things from scratch. What I didn’t expect was how much it would inspire me to cook differently, in particular when it came to cooking dinner.

I didn’t expect it to inspire me to try new things. To cook meals I may never have attempted before. To involve my family more.

The TM31 bowl held 2 litres and the Varoma 3 litres. They served families beautifully for years. But the increased capacity of the TM7, combined with features like Open Cooking and Browning Mode, opens up entirely new possibilities. The TM7 is now a combined capacity of 6.8L.

For Carmel, one of the greatest joys has been watching her teenagers become involved in cooking. “The best part is when the teens make something ‘just because’.”

I think that’s a pretty incredible outcome from a kitchen appliance. Sometimes the biggest upgrade isn’t the machine itself – it’s the memories being made around it.

The Upgrade Lorraine Didn’t Plan On

Lorraine had been happily using her TM5 for around 10 years and, like many owners, upgrading wasn’t something she was actively planning.

As long as her TM5 was doing its job, there was no urgency. But when the opportunity arose at our last trade-up offer, she decided it was the perfect time to make the move.

What surprised her most wasn’t a particular feature. It was the difference in the food.

Her first impressions were that the TM7 felt quieter, more powerful and easier to use, but after spending more time with it, she kept coming back to one thing: “The food tastes better.”

This is something I’ve heard from many owners moving from older models to the TM7.

Why?

Heat.

The TM7 introduces higher heat cooking functions, including Sugar Stages and Browning Mode. With Browning mode, the TM7 can get up to 160 degrees allowing ingredients to caramelise more effectively and develop deeper, richer flavours. Think golden onions, richer sauces and meals with those extra layers of flavour that traditionally came from standing over a stovetop.

Chicken Pad Thai is just one of many meals Lorraine has been whipping up since she got her TM7.
With high heat functionality in the TM7, this is something she could not achieve in her TM5.

Since upgrading, Lorraine has found herself making more foods from scratch than ever before.

Peanut butter.

Granola.

Muffins.

Even homemade flours.

Not because she has to. Because she wants to. And it’s so easy too!

She loves knowing exactly what’s going into the food her family eats and avoiding the fillers, preservatives and unnecessary ingredients often found in packaged alternatives.

For Lorraine, the upgrade wasn’t about replacing a machine she loved. It was about discovering that cooking from scratch could be even easier, more enjoyable and more rewarding than it already was with her TM5.

When asked if she wished she’d upgraded sooner, her answer was immediate: “Yes definitely.”

And her advice to other owners?

“Do it now. If you love your current Thermomix, you’ll love this one even more.”

What About TM6 Owners?

Kirstie’s story was particularly interesting because she wasn’t upgrading from a TM31 or TM5.

She owned a TM6 and she loved it. In fact, she loved it so much that she decided to keep it.

As soon as the TM7 was announced, she knew she wanted one. No hesitation. No convincing required.

She placed her pre-order immediately and couldn’t wait for it to arrive.

That alone says a lot.

The first thing she noticed was the large screen and premium feel. The insulated bowl, larger display and intuitive interface immediately stood out.

But what surprised her most was the quietness.

The TM7’s synchronous motor contributes to a noticeably quieter experience. The bowl remains cool to touch while helping reduce noise also, making everyday tasks like crushing ice, grating cheese or chopping nuts far less disruptive.

Kirstie also loves the larger Varoma and Open Cooking Mode, saying they’ve made cooking more enjoyable and inspiring.

Her summary was simple: “I loved my previous Thermomix, but the TM7 takes the experience to another level.”

I think that’s what makes her perspective so valuable. She wasn’t upgrading because she needed to. She upgraded because she wanted to.

The TM6 is still an incredible machine. It remains one of the most capable kitchen appliances ever created and continues to help families cook amazing food every day.

But the TM7 builds on that foundation. The workflow feels smoother. The screen feels more intuitive. The cooking experience feels more natural.

As someone who has also kept their TM6 alongside their TM7, I completely understand why Kirstie chose to do the same.

They’re both workhorses.

Whilst the TM6 feels like an incredible kitchen appliance, the TM7 feels like an incredible cooking experience.

And that’s a distinction that keeps coming up again and again when I speak with owners who have made the move. The cooking experience feels more refined.

It’s simply that the TM7 takes everything Thermomix owners already love and makes it feel even better.

So… Is The Upgrade Worth It?

The most interesting thing about these conversations wasn’t the features.

It was the common themes. That every owner loved their previous Thermomix. None of them were unhappy. Yet every single one said they wished they’d upgraded sooner.

The words that came up repeatedly were:

• Quieter
• Easier
• More intuitive
• More inspiring
• More enjoyable

Rod and Carmel talked about cooking more often and discovering new possibilities.

Lorraine talked about better flavour and cooking results.

Kirstie talked about a more refined experience.

Different starting points.

The same conclusion.

If you’ve been thinking about upgrading and wondering whether now is the right time, perhaps the better question is:

What could your Thermomix experience look like a year from now if you did?

There’s Another Kind of Trade-Up Worth Talking About

The TM7 replaces over 20 kitchen appliances.

While this article has been focused on upgrading from one Thermomix model to another, there’s another trade-up that is worth mentioning.

Trading up from a bench full of appliances.

Over the years, I’ve spoken to countless Thermomix owners who have happily retired appliances they simply no longer use. Things like rice cookers, slow cookers, scales, electric beaters, food processors, egg boilers, kettles, mandolines and bread makers.

In fact, the TM7 combines the functionality of more than 20 kitchen appliances into one machine.

What this means is you’ll find you have more bench space, less clutter, fewer dishes to wash, and a much simpler cooking process.

Instead of moving between multiple appliances, washing several bowls and trying to coordinate cooking times, everything happens in one place with the precision Thermomix is known for. Weighing, chopping, mixing, kneading, steaming, blending, emulsifying, browning and so much more can all happen in the one machine.

For many families, it’s not just about saving space – it’s about making meal times easier, reducing kitchen overwhelm and simplifying everyday cooking.

And right now, there’s even an opportunity to trade in an old kitchen appliance towards a new TM7. The appliance can be in any condition, and it doesn’t need to be a Thermomix. Trade that appliance in and you can save $150 off the total of the TM7.

So whether you’re trading up from an older Thermomix model or trading in an appliance that’s gathering dust in the back of your kitchen cupboard, there may never have been a better time to make space for something that can do it all.

If you would like to learn more about differences between models, how the trade-up to the TM7 works or how trading in an old kitchen appliance works, get in touch with your consultant or feel free to reach out. I am here to help.
